Dungaree Day Dream - Visiting Manchester for Lovedrobe Loves

As a photographer, I spend a lot of time gently guiding people in front of the camera to help them put aside their shyness and coax out a stunning portrait. I've spent well over a decade perfecting the best way to do this, but when it comes to taking my own advice, do I ever listen? No, of course not! I turn into the most awkward person imaginable, even when I'm feeling really good in what I'm wearing. So when I was asked if I'd like to pop up to Manchester to shoot with Lovedrobe duo Liv and Katey, I knew I had to just throw myself right in and not over think it - and the results were so much fun!

Because I wanted to get a feel for how the outfit worked "on film", I shot the outfit in my studio a few days before. I absolutely adore this pinafore dress as it felt like a grown up take on the sort of outfit I loved to wear as a child, and I added the mustard top because, well, I like to spend summer buzzing around looking like a fat bumble bee! Is it the most flattering outfit in the world? No. Do I care? HELL no! I felt so cute in it, the dress had pockets and me and my chub were pretending the whole of Manchester was one giant runway.

The sun visor is from H&M whilst the sandals are old Simply Be, but I decided on the day to swap them out for some Converse as I thought they'd be better for walking around the city in.

(l-r) Yours truly, Video Queen Katey and Camera Maestro Liv
Katey was filming me whilst Liv worked her magic behind the camera, and it was a really interesting experience to be on the other side of the lens in a more professional setting. My nerves vanished pretty much instantly as both women were as lovely as they are talented, and it felt more like a fun afternoon messing around with friends. I think that came through in the below video as there was no holding back on the nerdiness at all when speaking (#teamhuffpuff), and I'm smiling - really smiling with screwed up eyes and proper belly laughs.

Unlike my blog photos which show a much more edited version of myself, I love the raw, unashamed silliness which shines through in these! I think it's a real skill to make someone feel so at ease that they let you capture these types of shots, and if anyone is ever looking for a photographer or videographer up North, I can't recommend Katey and Liv enough.

It's hard to pick my favourites, but I think with my love of plants, the ones shot with the foliage are pretty up there. That said, I was also so happy when I saw that I'd been caught doing what I do best - making friends with the local animals! It was definitely a wonderful, positive experience, and something which I'm so happy I took part in.

Until next time,
