I feel very lucky to be able to say that I have the best mother in law a person could ever ask for, so when TK Maxx got in touch asking whether I'd like to search for some Mother's Day treats for her, I absolutely jumped at the chance!
TK Maxx really is the Aladdin's cave of stores. You never quite know what you are going to come home with, but with up to 60% off the retail price, you know it'll be a massive bargain! With Mother's Day on the horizon, they have populated a handy Gifts For Her guide and Cards and Giftwrap section on their website, and with a huge array of fashion, beauty and homewares on offer, you'll be sure to find something lovely for your mum AND for yourself too!
My lovely mother in law has her birthday and Mother's Day very close together, so Howard and I set off on a mission to our local store. We had a very vague plan in our head - some sort of main jewellery piece as the key item, and then a few smaller items which were relevant to her interests.
We struck gold almost immediately with a bee-utiful designer watch, which for our bee loving, garden keeping, gift recipient was perfect! At £48 it was almost half of our budget blown in one item, but was definitely worth it as it's a real statement piece which we knew she would love. And with it's retail value being closer to £100, I felt like we bagged a real bargain too.
One of the things my mum in law had recently mentioned was how she'd been looking for some nice shirts to go out in. With a huge womenswear department in our local store, it seemed like a no-brainer to search through the rails to see if there was anything suitable, and I managed to snag this lovely dotty find. It's the sort of smart / casual style which she favours, and one which I am sure will look lovely on her.
The homeware section in our local store had me running around like a child in a sweetshop, and having found myself clutching lots of plant pots and glassware, I had to remind myself who we were shopping for!
My mum in law is a fan of slate placemats and coasters, and had been looking for some new ones as there's been a few coaster casualties in recent years. I managed to find these ones on a shelf behind some other items, and was elated as they are the exact sort of thing that she'd like.
Howard and I wanted to finish things off with something for her countryside garden, and as she is someone with an active bird population visiting her for food on a daily basis, were delighted when we found this pretty hanging bird bath.
To be honest, this was something which looked a whole lot more expensive than what it was (we paid somewhere around the £10 mark for it), and it has a subtle wind-chime sound whilst fulfilling something functional for her garden. It was such a treat to be able to spoil her like she deserves, and I cannot wait to see her to deliver the gifts to her when we take her to dinner.
I always find myself getting the best results from shopping in TK Maxx when I only have a vague plan - you need to allow yourself the time to rummage, and whilst it's hard to go in with a precise shopping list, they always have such a variety of goods on offer that you can find something. Whether you're shopping for gifts, to spruce up your home or to replenish your make-up bag, they are a real gem on both the high street and online. If you want some more online inspiration, you can check out their very own Gifts For Her guide.
