In The Navy? Sailors vs Vikings For A Lazy Museum Saturday.

Last Saturday, I was so excited to finally get to see the Vikings exhibition at The British Museum! It had been on our to-do list ever since the collection was first announced, and it really didn't disappoint.

Vikings: Life & Legend was more than just a collection of artefacts. It featured many new archaeological discoveries alongside items from the British Museum's personal collection and that from other places across Britain and Ireland. It really made a point of showing Viking culture not just as raiders and traders, but as husbands, wives and a part of an overall community. It was fascinating to see the network built up between continents, where a mixture of religious, artistic and political ideas were combined as different influences sailed in tandem with loot, ornate weapons and plundered treasures.

There were so many personal objects within the collection, including a stunning array of jewellery and amulets. Brilliantly, it also touched on the Viking's own version of a female with doctor which was utterly intriguing and something I hadn't come across before.

The final chamber of the exhibition was without a doubt the show piece for many as it was home to the surviving timber skeleton of a full size 37-meter-long Viking warship. Although it was very much a frame, you could see the level of craftsmanship which had gone into building it and I cannot recommend seeing the exhibition enough. Sadly there was a no photo rule which we upheld, but the British Museum website has a wealth of information and it's on in London until 22nd June 2014.

Since it was a super cute date with my very own Viking, here's what I wore for it:
Dress: Black Dolores Doll Classic Dress from Collectif.
Leggings: F&F True Leggings from F&F.
Shoes: Flossy Elastic Black Canvas Pumps from Office.
Straw Hat: H&M.
Bag: Matt & Nat via ASOS.
Roller Necklace: Pip Jolley.
Spiked Bracelet: Thrifted.

And in lieu of any actual photos from the exhibition, here's one of Lord Dicely, my favourite sword wielding Viking!
Until next time,

Diana xx

  2. You look lovely. Lord Dicely, on the other hand, looks like he's been indulging in too much mead, and now wants a nice long nap!
