Starry, Starry Night - Collectif Trixie Moon Velvet Swing Dress via Simply Be

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, it's hard to not feel a touch of magic around this time of year. If the twinkling lights and beautiful smells of mulled spice and pine needles don't get you, the thought of resetting everything at the stroke of midnight on the 31st is a pretty thrilling prospect. Who doesn't like a clean slate, empty diary and a whole new year to make some new adventures. And since we're jumping headfirst into a brand new decade, I've been thinking more about what to do for NYE, and seem to have assembled my perfect outfit by accident. Stars, moons and cats seem about right for me, and with just a few days until we go home for Christmas, it's all starting to feel exciting.

I'd originally bought this Collectif Trixie Moon Velvet Swing Dress (via Simply Be) to wear for my birthday, but decided to go for something a bit more 60s in style since I went out dancing at a Northern Soul night. Then I was going to wear it to my boyfriend's birthday lunch, but it felt a bit too over the top. Then I thought "Yes, Christmas!" but instead managed to get the Joanie Clothing dress I'd swooned over last year in the sale so fully intend to live out my best Quality Street dream this year in that instead. And so it fell to NYE, and somehow with it's star and moon print, feels perfect as we step into the next decade.

Heels: Simply Be (no longer available)

I'm a huge fan of Collectif, and hadn't realised that they had extended their sizes through Simply Be. This dress is an actual dream to wear, with the fit being spot on in my usual size. It's got quite a bit of stretch to it, and the silver foil print of atomic stars, crescent moons and black cats are utterly adorable. It's finished with a faux wrap bust and a cute half sleeve and is just too perfect. I love it so much, and wish it was the sort of dress I could squeeze into my everyday wardrobe!

Until next time,
