Having spent almost a year as a children's portrait photographer, I can honestly say that the old adage of never working with children or animals is at least half true. As someone who generally likes kids, they aren't all that fun to take photos of unless they know you. It's no exaggeration to say that they very much have their own agenda; one which mostly include crying, throwing tantrums, or even worse, throwing wooden bricks and lego at my head. However, not all small, drooling, leaking things are bad to work with. Having animals in the studio can be a little stressful, but mostly makes for a giggle on set. Capturing those special moments of your furry friends tend to generate those laugh out loud images, when all you're looking for is a serene portrait. It's amazing how even the most princess like of felines can suddenly go from pompous to puffball and scamper off to the galleries of lolcats as soon as the lens is turned on them.
Anyway; here are a few of my favourite furry photos...
Casper: The most adorable, slobbery friend that we've had in the studio yet. A diva pup in training with his diamond studded collar! |
Geoff and Casper. Or Casper and Geoff? Between the ginger beards and adorable puppy dog stare, it's almost impossible to tell these twins apart... |
My beloved Roybot. Stinkiest cat who ever lived. Best cat too... Miss that furball. |
Roybot's Cecil Beaton stare. |
Micron. The tiny kitten made from the same velour and tights material as the Sylvanian Family characters. |
Misty. Generally looks like a black version of Marie from The Aristocats. Not so much in this photo though... |
If ever something expressed someone's personality, it's this photo... Ahh, Roybot... |
