(P)leather and Lace - Sheer Lace Maxi Dress from Simply Be

When I first set eyes on this Sheer Lace Maxi dress from Simply Be, it was a real love at first sight moment. This dress totally embraces all the Craft inspired goth vibes which baby me was too nervous to explore. Grown up me however comes armed with an overdraft, attitude and bright green tips, so whether you  call it a mid life crisis or a vintage inspired throwback, this dress was destined to be mine!

Sensible me reasoned that this is going to be a dream of a dress come the summer. It's currently on sale being a style from AW16 (£36 reduced from £60), but the strappy nature and flowing lace lend themselves perfectly to a balmy summers day. I stand at a pretty average 5'6" and with a small block heel on my boot, the dress hits at the perfect length. The adjustable straps also make it easy to throw a long sleeve t-shirt underneath to further push a 90s aesthetic, or simply do what I did and throw a badass jacket on top and release your inner Nancy Downs.

I shot it with stocking for the sake of photographing the lace detail properly, but have since worn the dress with both oxblood and mustard coloured tights to keep warm without losing the detail. Whilst I think the summer with bring out the dresses softer side with a big floppy hat and oversized glasses, for now I'm enjoying the tougher edginess which AW fashion so often brings.

Until next time,

  1. I have SO much love for this dress! I'd been hoping another blogger would get it so I could see what it looks like on properly. I just wish the skirt was a bit fuller so proper drama when swooshing about!

  2. You look amazing Diana. That dress is to die for. :) I might have to invest in it for my holiday to the Dominican Republic as it would be such a lovely dress to wear for dinners out. I love mixing textures. In my latest post I mixed faux fur, velvet and leather and it worked really well. xxx
