Born To Be Wild - Releasing My Inner Rizzo With H&M

There's nothing like a good biker jacket to make you feel like a 50s bad girl, and this sale bargain from H&M does just that! Normally I don't like things being overly tight on me, but somehow this jacket which is at least a size too small got a pass. I think I just really liked the design (and the price!) too much to pass it up.

H&M have really been great recently, and I've found some good items amongst their main and plus range. This simple black dress from them is one of my go to favourites, with the thick fabric holding it's shape and being a great pick on cooler days.

Dress: H&M
Biker Jacket: H&M
Tights: Primark
Boots: Simply Be
Rose: Pearls & Swine
Necklace: Bete Noir

I think it's pretty clear that I am aiming to be Rizzo when I grow up. There are worse things I could do, right?

Until next time,

Black & White - More Vintage Thrift Store Fun

With the weather being so interchangeable right now, I am all about the layers. Big cardigans over tea dresses seem to be my go-to outfit of choice, and I've found myself getting a lot of use from one of my older and much loved vintage finds.

Oh Deery Me - Teal Deer Design 1950s Vintage Party Dress from BBW Couture

Sometimes you see something and sigh at how perfect it is. That's what I did when I saw this lovely vintage inspired deer print dress from BBW Couture, and I knew that I needed it in my life! I'm a fan of anything silly and kitsch. and the print is certainly that. Deers and hearts set against a beautiful teal is right up my street, and I couldn't wait to squeeze myself into it for some fifties fun.

Dress: 1950s Vintage (repro) Party Dress from BBW Couture
Cardigan: Fine Knit Cardigan from H&M
Tights: 20 Denier Tights from The Big Tights Company
Jelly Sandals: via eBay
Flowers: From a selection from Pearls & Swine / Temptress of Waikiki
Necklace: Custom Heart Necklace from Bete Noire

The dress is available up to a UK 26, and is generously sized. The v-neck crossover design is very accomadating for larger busts, with a mid tie belt to define the waist. It's the perfect dress for summer, with a full circle skirt shape which easily fits a full petticoat underneath for maximum spinning! Even better, the dress comes in under £30 so won't break the bank if you're looking for a wedding guest outfit on a budget. At £27.99, I'm already deciding which ones I want to get my hands on next!

I've Got The Eye Of The Tiger

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to pick up this amazing dress from Chattermonkey at a plus size clothes swap. Whilst most of the prints I wear tend to be more vintage inspired, this loud, fun tiger print screamed out to me and I was delighted when I wriggled my way into it and found that it passed the dreaded "will it fit over my boobs?" test!

I teamed it with a pair of heels which I also picked up at the clothes swap. The swaps are such a fantastic way to recycle your wardrobe and go shopping without spending a penny and I cannot recommend them enough. The next one is coming up soon in March, with full details found here!

Dress: Thrifted from Fat Positive Clothes Swap
Tights: M&S
Shoes: Thrifted from Fat Positive Clothes Swap
Necklace: Bete Noire
Bracelets: Vintage
Cross Body Bag: New Look via ASOS

The bag I'm wearing with this dress has become my go-to bag for when I want to stay hands free. It has taken me ages to find a cross body bag which fits comfortably across my chest, and is the perfect size for cramming all those handbag essentials in.  The bottom of it is wider than the top, making this pint sized purchase bigger than what it first appears. I can get my diary and large purse in there with ease, as well as chucking in my cosmetics and all the other bits and pieces I carry around with me day to day.

Grey Skies Are Gonna Clear Up - Grey Floral Summer Dress from George.

There's nothing quite like a lovely, simple Summer dress and I adored the sweet pink print set against the grey of this cute number from George at Asda. I've only recently discovered how wonderful they are for basic wardrobe staples and picked this dress up in the sale whilst browsing.

Dress: George
Belt: ASOS Curve
Necklace: Pip Jolley
Leggings: F&F
Shoes: New Look
Bracelet: Vintage.

The dress had it's first outing when Howard and I visited Hyde Park for their British Summertime show to see Neil Young and The National. It was incredibly humid with a promise of rain so I teamed the dress with my favourite wellies from Jileon and an old F&F cardigan along with F&F True leggings. I finished the outfit off with another belt from ASOS Curve, my Whiskey Kittens necklace from Bete Noire and the perfect gig sized bag from Primark. Sadly in this photo I'm squinting straight into the sun and am thinking much more about eating my ice-cream than posing!

Even though we're running into Autumn, I'm still buying up Summer dresses in the sales when I see something I like. They're perfect for wearing with chunky cardigans and woolly tights for a grungy layered look when you're not quite sure what the weather's doing! Add some battered lace-up boots for some Daria-chic and you are all the better for stomping in those huge piles of crunchy leaves which we'll be seeing very soon!

Until next time,

Push The Button - ASOS Curve Green Skater Dress With Gold Buttons

That one time we had a Summer (hey, remember that?), I found myself in need of some everyday dresses which I could stay cooler in whilst shooting. The ASOS Curve Green Skater Dress With Gold Buttons was exactly what I had been after, so when I saw it in the sale I just had to get it.

I completely fell in love with the dress the second I tried it on. Whilst it's not in my usual vintage / repro style, the dress is soft, comfy and has two large pockets perfect for holding spare memory cards and flash guns. It's one of those dresses which is easily teamed with basics such as leggings and ballet flats and one which I know come Autumn, I'll be able to grunge up with boyfriend cardigans and smoky eyes. It has a slight dropped waist and is generously sized. I was worried that my normal size wouldn't accommodate my k-cup bust due to the buttons, but if anything I probably could have sized down.

Dress: ASOS Curve.
Leggings: F&F.
Necklace: Bete Noire.
Hat: Thrifted.

This has become my go-to dress when shooting on location as it's easy to move in and the pockets are deep and functional. Plus green is such a good colour, and one which I really need more of in my wardrobe!

Until next time,
