Lady In Red - Scarlett & Jo Plus Size Sweetheart Lace Yoke Dress from House of Fraser

Scarlett & Jo have quickly become one of my favourite brands. Their vintage aesthetic is something which makes my heart tingle, so I was very happy to see them nestled amongst some amazing plus size brands at iconic department store, House of Fraser.

When HoF got in touch to see if I would be interested in reviewing an item from their plus size range, I absolutely jumped at the chance. They had a wonderful range of skater dresses available, and I found myself gravitating towards them as their shape always makes me feel a little 60s does 50s in terms of vintage style.

After spending an absolute age going through what was available, I finally settled on the Scarlett & Jo Plus Size Sweetheart Lace Yoke Dress. The dress is currently on sale for just £18 (sold originally for £35) and it is an absolute stunner. Available in blue or red options, I opted to go for the scarlet woman approach and it was love at first sight. The lace sleeves and neckline make a simple empire line ooze elegance, and it's a great choice for the impending Summer wedding season. One of my pet hates for formal ceremonies is having to wear a smart jacket or bolero over a dress and feeling overheated, but the beautiful lace sleeves help get away with that and the light fabric allows for lots of breathing.

The dress really spoke for itself and didn't need much in the way of accessories. I teamed it with a red flower from Pearls & Swine, a cherry necklace which was a gift, jelly flats from eBay and an ace of hearts vintage handbag. In the cooler seasons, I'd definitely pair it with black tights and ankle boots but felt that the Spring and Summer months needed a lighter colour approach.

I was genuinely surprised by just how well stocked the House of Fraser plus size department was. With specific sections for everything from hosiery to jumpsuits to wide fitting boots, there was a huge selection of choice from so many of my favourite brands. Their famous blue cross sale is also now running across many departments, with bargains waiting to be snapped up with up to an incredible 70%. If you're on the look out for an outfit for a specific event, this would be a great time to have a peek and see what's on offer.
