Date With The Night - Plus Sasha Slinky Batwing Skater Dress from Boohoo

When I saw this dress on the Boohoo website, I knew it had to be mine. The short length and floaty sleeves were already two big pluses, but it was the front split which really caught my attention. I knew that it wasn't going to be as subtle on me as it was in the product picture, but I don't think there's much difference between flashing a bit of bra or showing off a lace or mesh insert.

It's Friday, I'm In Love - Crochet Collar Fit and Flare Dress from Scarlett & Jo

There's no denying that Wednesday Addams has always been one of my style icons so it was love at first site when I first came across the Crochet Collar Fit and Flare Dress from Scarlett & Jo.

I'm a big fan of the skater dress shape - it always feels like a toned down version of the 50s silhouette to me, whilst remaining something easy to wear and perfect for the everyday. The white crochet collar is stunning, with a sparkling pearl detail making the dress feel very special indeed.

It's such an easy to wear dress, with a stretchy finish and 3/4 length sleeves. The nature of it also makes it's great for most occasions - it's just as much at home as a smart-casual option as it is lazy, weekend cinema date.

Best of all, like all of their dresses, it goes up to a UK size 32. Scarlett & Jo have recently had a major revamp which includes the launch of a new website with their clothes shown on plus size women of all sizes to get a real feel for how the items sit. It's such a revolutionary concept, and one which has been met with strong applause. If you also want to get a sneaky 10% off your orders, simply join up to their club here with the discount automatically applied at discount. Perfect for treating yourself to a sneaky Christmas gift or a new dress for the New Year.

Until next time,

Diana xx

Vinyl In Mono - Black And White Monochrome Block Stripe Skater Dress from Yours Clothing

I love cute skater dresses, so naturally fell in love with this Chanel-esque number the second I saw it on the Yours Clothing website.  There's something about monochrome fashion which just feels completely timeless, and this dress is one of those items which can be whipped out from the wardrobe and dressed up or down for most occasions.

Flowers: Pearls & Swine
Tights: M&S
Shoes: Gifted from a friend

I wore the dress to a joint birthday party shared with Lord Dicely, and teamed it with a black bolero for warmth. I loved the neckline of the dress as it was different to anything else I'd seen, and it's made from a stiff, almost scuba-like material ensuring it falls really nicely. It comes available in both white, blue and pink variants, but I loved the simple, classic feel of the white and black together.

Fresh As A Daisy - New Look Inspire Daisy Print V-Neck Skater Dress.

I absolutely love daisies. Whether they're in a park, on a necklace or in my hair, as soon as the first signs of Spring have hit, they make me happy whenever I see them. As soon as I saw this daisy print dress from the New Look Inspire collection, I just had to have it so was over the moon when I saw it appear in the sale on the ASOS website.

New Look Inspire Daisy Print V-Neck Skater Dress. (On sale for £12.50 here.)
The dress is perfect for sunshine fun, and is teamed easily with wardrobe staples such as ballet flats and leggings. I'm wearing it here with my favourite leggings from F&F True, flowers from Pearls and Swine and a Space Invader name necklace which Howard had made from Punky Pins.

I think my favourite thing about this dress (bar the print of course) is the v-neck. I'm so used to skater dressed having a round neck, and I found with a larger chest, it had an almost sweetheart style neckline.

I'm heading off to the countryside over Easter, so this will be my last post until I'm back. I hope you have a lovely bank holiday filled with lots of chocolate and bunnies, and will speak with you when I return.

Until next time,

Diana xx

In Bloom - Ditsy Print Skater Dress from Simply Be.

Whenever I get asked about my style influences, the 1940s and 50s are clearly a huge part of that. However as a child and teenager of the 90s, it was almost impossible to grow up not wanting to be Shirley Manson or Courtney Love, and that is certainly something which has stuck with me into adulthood. For every vintage dress or cute bag I own, there's a pair of big boots and ripped tights waiting for the right chance to come out to play!

Ditsy Print Skater Dress from Simply Be.

Because of my love of the grungy aesthetic, I was utterly thrilled when I came across the Ditsy Print Skater Dress on the Simply Be website. The fabric is a lovely Liberty-print style ditsy floral number, with pale lilac and mustard hues set against a black background. It's certainly the cute side of grunge, ready to be worn with big boots and black tights. However it's pretty enough that it can also be teamed simply with ballet flats for a dressed down look.

The shape itself is one which would suit most body shapes as it is soft and floaty with a tie at the back. It's also spacious in the bust area, as I was worried the buttons would gape to the front. Once tried on though, it was pretty much perfect with it's generous sizing.

Long sleeve or short sleeve?
One other dress feature is you can choose to wear the sleeves full length or rolled to the elbow. It even comes with a handy turn-back tab to keep them secured in place which is a really hand touch when I'm getting busy in the studio. It also has pockets - deep, well places pockets which for a photographer is the holy grail of dress design!

When I wore it out to a gig over the weekend, I amped up the grunge side of things by teaming it with an oversized black cardigan from F&F at Tesco, a belt from ASOS Curve and a personalised name necklace from Tatty Devine which says PhotoGeek. The tights, like the dress are from Simply Be and the boots were "borrowed" (read: stolen) from my darling beau.

Until next time,

Dear Catastrophe Waitress - Red And Black Tartan Dress from Yours Clothing.

One of my favourite things about the transition into Autumn / Winter trends is that we see a shift towards grunge led aesthetics but built into softer shapes. I love skater dresses as they suit my figure and evoke a slight feeling of 50s flounce when spinning around in them.

When I saw this tartan number from Yours Clothing, my heart almost burst with happiness as it really spoke to both the vintage loving and 90s wildchild sides of my personality.

Dress: Red and Black Check 2 in 1 Tartan Dress with Patent Belt (£30) from Yours Clothing.
Handbag: Vintage.
Leggings: Black Basic Cotton Elastane Leggings (£10) from Yours Clothing.
Red Shoes: Vintage via Red Bows Boutique.
Roses: Pearls and Swine.

I was a little worried about how it would fit across my chest, as black material has a tendency to stretch to white when under pressure. I needn't have worried though - the dress is a very generous fit and the slim belt really nips in nicely at the waist. The scoop neck is high enough to make this dress a very versatile item, and is one which can easily be smartened up with nice heels or grunged down with an oversized boyfriend cardigan.

This is one of those dresses which I can already tell I will live in, and am already looking forward to it's next outing!

(Note: This is an honest, impartial review after purchasing an item, and not one which I have been paid for.)

Until next time,
Diana xx
