Along Came Polly - Introducing Polly Grace & The Katrina Dress

It's always very exciting when a new plus size brand appears on the scene, especially when they have a selection of vintage inspired designs amongst their range. Polly Grace blew me away with their stunning prints and 50s shapes, but they are more than just another repro brand. With everything from casual t-shirts to maxi dresses available up to a UK size 32, there are lots of items to catch your eye whether you're on the look out for wardrobe basics or something special.

It's no surprise that I found myself swooning over their Katrina dress. Available in a range of five very different prints, the shape was designed to accentuate the waist and hide bra straps with ease. The dress is fully lined and zips up at the back with a matching self tie belt which can be worn to the front or back. It's an elegant design, perfect for wedding guests, Summer BBQs or simply because you want to feel pretty in the sunshine.
I opted for the monochrome floral print dress (£30)*, which is an absolute, floaty dream. It lends itself perfectly to be worn with a cute cardigan and clutch, and the monochrome palette makes it very easy to mix with other colours.

What I particularly liked about the dress was the higher neckline. As someone with a larger chest, I often end up being a little flattened on top which can sometimes take the shine off a classic design. I sized up by one, and found the fit was still perfect on my waist as well as the bust - especially once cinched in with the belt. I cannot wait to wear this dress to a wedding over the weekend, where I will be mixing it up with some pink sandals and a pink cardigan - and my camera of course!

As a little bonus, if you use the discount code diana20 at checkout, you will get a 20% discount of the contents of your basket, including sale items!

Until next time,

Stepping into Autumn with George - An AW15 Preview from George Clothing

Swooning over winter collections whilst sweating like a rung out t-shirt never ceases to feel any less surreal, but the AW preview season is very much upon us once again! Yesterday was the turn of George to show off their AW15 collection, and with an edit showing a varied range of tailored shapes, bold patters and a mixture of textures, it was certainly impressive. Laid back luxery, boho vibes and 60s shapes all made an appearance, but the star of the show had to be the price tags - if you're looking for high street chic on a shoe string budget, you'll definitely want to be reading on.

Split into three stories, the AW15 collection from George presents us with Wilderness, Citron Frost and Armour. Staring with Wilderness, it brings us abstract prints in Autumn tones with faux furs, suedes and tapestry fabrics all bundled together. Influenced by the boho vibe of the 70s, ditsy florals meet paisley with calculated fabric clashes resulting in eye-catching delights.

That Summer Feeling - Boho Vibes from Primark

The huge Primark on Tottenham Court Road is a bargain filled temptress. I waltzed in to pick up some basic leggings, and immediately homed in on this beautiful 70s boho maxi dress. It's not my usual style (my wardrobe mostly consists of vintage and repro pieces mimicing the 40s - 60s), but I'd been on the look out for something long and swishy which I can still wear with flats, and this dress ticked all the boxes.
Dress: Primark
Cardigan: Primark
Ballet Flats: Rocket Dog
Flower: Pearls & Swine
Swallow Necklace: Tatty Devine
Bracelets: Vintage

At 5'6", maxi dresses can be a little difficult for me as I rarely wear heels. This one was the perfect length though - almost floor skimming, but not enough to get in the way when I walk. The dress has buttons down the front and flares out from the hips and was a surprisingly good fit, even over my k-cup chest.

It was a very recent find in Primark, so hopefully should still be in the shops. It packs down to almost nothing despite the volume of the bottom half, making it the perfect item to add to your holiday suitcase.

Oh Deery Me - Teal Deer Design 1950s Vintage Party Dress from BBW Couture

Sometimes you see something and sigh at how perfect it is. That's what I did when I saw this lovely vintage inspired deer print dress from BBW Couture, and I knew that I needed it in my life! I'm a fan of anything silly and kitsch. and the print is certainly that. Deers and hearts set against a beautiful teal is right up my street, and I couldn't wait to squeeze myself into it for some fifties fun.

Dress: 1950s Vintage (repro) Party Dress from BBW Couture
Cardigan: Fine Knit Cardigan from H&M
Tights: 20 Denier Tights from The Big Tights Company
Jelly Sandals: via eBay
Flowers: From a selection from Pearls & Swine / Temptress of Waikiki
Necklace: Custom Heart Necklace from Bete Noire

The dress is available up to a UK 26, and is generously sized. The v-neck crossover design is very accomadating for larger busts, with a mid tie belt to define the waist. It's the perfect dress for summer, with a full circle skirt shape which easily fits a full petticoat underneath for maximum spinning! Even better, the dress comes in under £30 so won't break the bank if you're looking for a wedding guest outfit on a budget. At £27.99, I'm already deciding which ones I want to get my hands on next!

Getting Ready For The Sun with Cotswold Outdoor

With a visit to the Lake District very much on my mind, I've been on the look out for some sensible, hard wearing items to ensure I stay dry and cosy whilst walking over the hilly terrain. Sensible shoes and rain-friendly fabrics have been a must, so it was only natural that I looked to speciality retailers such as Cotswold Outdoor.

Being quite busty has made it difficult in the past to find garments which fit comfortably, but I've learned to look past the labels and investigate the larger sizes offered to men. Indeed a quick peek in the men's clothing department pulled up all sorts of weather ready options, with some going up to a 5XL.

Jack Wolfskin Men's Cloudburst Jacket - from £85
The Jack Wolfskin Men's Colourburst Jacket (from £85) was one such item which went up to a 5XL, and is offered in a range of colours including bright red and green. Designed to be the perfect hiking jacket, it's both light and waterproof and takes up as much space in your bag as a 0.75 litre water bottle. It comes with a hood, pockets and even a sack to help stuff it into your bag when not in use.

Women's Proterra Gore-Tex Shoe - Was £110, now £55
Back in the woman's section, I came across these Women's Proterra Gore-Tex Shoe (currently on sale for £55). These are perfect for heading out on long walks as they are both waterproof and lightweight with something called the "Gore-Tex Connect Fit waterproof membrane" to mould around your feet and keep them protected.
Women's Raffia Hat - £20
A hat is always a good bet when going away for the summer, especially one with a brim to protect your skin. The Women's Raffia Hat (£20) is a great option made from natural palm fibre which ensures the original shape will be kept no matter how much your hat gets squashed. Whether you're laying on a beach or wandering through the countryside, this is the perfect hat to throw on top of your luggage.
Bloc Hurricane Sunglasses - £35
My last holiday essential is a good pair of sunglasses. In addition to being stylish, these Bloc Hurricane Sunglasses (£35) provide 100% UV protection and sport a soft full frame aviator shape. It doesn't matter if you're travelling abroad or on your way to the office, these stylish frames will see you through.

Until next time,

Diana xx

Dino-mite - How to be a vintage loving nerd dressing for a walking holiday.

In a little over a week, I'll be heading out of London and visiting the beautiful Lake District for a relaxing week of swimming, boardgames and very long walks. It's been three years since my first escape there, and I fully intend to learn from my past sartorial mistakes. Packing some leggings to throw under dresses isn't the answer to keeping decent when attempting to shimmy over rocks, and ballet flats, no matter how comfortable, are never a substitute for a decent pair of walking boots. You can take the girl out of the city, but if that girl is me, she'll be useless at dressing for it. So this time I'm heading up, fully prepared, but attempting to put my own spin on things.

A Summer holiday within the UK normally means one thing - you WILL get rained on at some point! This year I decided to be prepared with a light weight rain ready duffle mac which was both functional and cute. I found this ASOS Curve number on eBay, and felt ready for any thunderstorms and puddle splashing thrown my way. I loved the bright red colour, but it was the polka dot lining which really made me swoon - part Paddington, part Little Red Riding Hood and completely up my street! I have to shout out to fashion guru Chattermonkey for letting me know of this coat's existence as it's been my go to choice as we've made that damp and chilly transition into spring.

Cardigan: Primark.
T-Shirt: Velociraptor Dinosaur "Vintage" Print from WLCShop via Etsy.
Shorts: High Waisted Denim Shorts from ASOS Curve.
Flower: Pearls & Swine.
Tights: Simply Be.
Walking Boots: Karrimor Womens Ladies Walking Boots via eBay.

In terms of "sensible clothes", I still wanted to put my usual vintage spin on things. I was over the moon when I came across these perfect high waisted shorts from ASOS Curve, although make sure you size up as they run on the small side. I wanted some cute tees to team with it, and being a massive dinosaur nerd, fell in love with this vintage style screen  print from WLCShop via Etsy. The boots were my final necessity, and found that eBay had lots of cheap options with my Karrimor ones being sold at £30 rather than their RRP of £80. Did I feel sad spending that money on ugly boots rather than cute shoes? Of course! But I know my feet will thank me later, and I've had a lot of fun breaking them in on Hampstead Heath. They really have made a difference, and the cushioned soles are like walking on clouds!

Whilst this incredible Dinosaur Clutch Bag from The White Pepper via ASOS won't be coming with me, I couldn't resist adding it to the post. A gift from my lovely friend Brutal Red, he was instantly named Herbert and works brilliantly as both a shoulder bag or clutch thanks to two sets of removable straps.

I am so excited to head off, and have a countdown until I can put on my out of studio email! If you'd be interested in seeing lots of pretty landscape photos and me looking silly, make sure you follow me on Instagram before we head off!

Until next time,

Hot Hot Heat - Summer Chub Rub Saviours from Bandelettes

Whilst I love Summer, almost every owner of a pair of thighs has come across the problem of what has affectionately been termed the dreaded "chub rub". We've all experienced it - that sweaty friction which turns a sunshine filled walk into a long, spiky fall into hell fire. There have been many solutions offered over the years - sweating it out in leggings, unattractive "comfort shorts" and all manner of creams and pastes designed to form a barrier for your skin. Whilst effective in their own ways, there's nothing like feeling sticky or squeezed like a sausage to leave you feeling less than a summery goddess. Thankfully this is where US brand Bandelettes have stepped in, giving chunky thighs a bit of breathing space when the weather heats up.

Bandelettes are one of those items which as soon as I slipped on, I couldn't fathom why someone hadn't thought of it sooner. Not only do they look like sexy stocking toppers so instantly put a kick in your step, the thigh bands protect and provide comfort from chafing all day long.

Available in a whole range of colours and designs (I was sent the Red Romance style to review), the wide lace bands are backed with non-slip silicone to ensure they stay in place all day. You simply measure the circumference of your thigh and choose the size which your measurements fit closest to, with the recommendation that you size down if you fall in between two options. Having run errands in them for an entire day, they didn't roll down or slip for the duration. The silicone kept them firmly where they needed to be, and it felt lovely to waltz around without an extra layer of tights or leggings underneath my dress.

You can view the whole Bandelettes range here, and even with the international shipping, they had arrived in less than a week. I cannot recommend them enough, and will definitely be coming back to purchase more. They are a wardrobe essential to survive the summer, and you'll be able to happily kiss your tights good-bye until the Autumn.

Until next time,

Style Has No Size - A Body Confidence Campaign from Evans ClothingA

A few weeks ago, Evans Clothing played host to a room full of bloggers as they launched their #StyleHasNoSize campaign at London's Sanderson Hotel. Promoting body positivity, the movement came after Evans staged the first ever curvy catwalk show during London Fashion Week and the slogan was used as a mantra to instil confidence in their models.

What I love about the slogan is that it's all encompassing. It doesn't pit fat against skinny, it's all about loving yourself whatever size, shape or style you are.

As part of the campaign, Evans have released a Style Has No Size t-shirt and tote bag featuring the slogan boldly emblazened. And best of all? All the profits from the sale of the merchandise will go to the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity, a wonderful charity which supports families with very ill children.

In their own words,
We [Evans] believe that style is not about the size you wear; it’s about how you style your size. Our #STYLEHASNOSIZE campaign celebrates every woman’s shape and style - a message to challenge preconceptions and bring together women with a mantra that really matters.
The launch was filled with positivity, and it was a lovely chance to meet and catch up with some of my favourite faces, as well as meeting new ones.

(l-r) Myself, Murder of Goths and Chloe Pierre.
Of course we took total advantage of the event's photobooth! Here was have An Autumn's Grace, A Is For Abi and A Rose Like This.
Photo (c) A Is For Abi.

I wore a red jersey and lace dress from Scarlett & Jo at Evans, teamed with a red flower from Pearls & Swine for the event. I had such a fun time catching up with everyone and meeting some wonderful new faces. I can't wait to see the effects of the campaign, and the incredible burst of positivity surrounding it.

Click Flash - Cara Camera Across Body Bag from Accessorize

So imagine you're a handbag loving photographer, and you stumble across the most incredible camera shaped design ever made. That's what happened to me recently when I walked past the window of Camden's Accessorize. I quite literally stopped in my tracks, gasped and handed over my credit card without question. Never had I needed to purchase something so badly in my entire life!

Whilst I'm a lover of frivolity, I try to avoid spending money on silly things for the most part but this bag was too adorable to pass up. Called the Cara Camera Bag, the cross body design is comfy and easy to wear. It's small enough to be the perfect size for crowded places, but big enough for your phone, purse and your key make-up essentials.

Whilst being utterly ridiculous, I cannot look at it without smiling. The soft colour palette make it a neutral choice for most outfits, and it opens and closes easily with a simply popper.

Have I mentioned how much I love this bag? Expect to see it glued to my side all Summer long!

Until next time,
